CHINESE-JEWISH CEMETERY VOWS + DIM SUM DANCE PARTY - k+r
Kristina + Roy met at a Lower East Side basement party in 2008. Seven years later Roy proposed by placing a ring on a hamburger bun at an In-N-Out Burger. Throughout their initial wedding planning search for the perfect NYC venue, their goal was to incorporate an outdoor wedding while also tying in Kristina's Chinese roots. The Marble Cemetery in the East Village turned out to be the ideal ceremony venue for their Chinese-Jewish celebration. The cemetery (which features vaults in the surrounding stone walls, no tombstones to step on!) is set back from the hustle and bustle of the East Village (and backs up to the Bowery Hotel), and was the perfect tucked away venue for intimate ceremony. The ceremony featured stunning and understated floral urns from Fox Fodder Farm and some large balloons to frame the site. The ceremony was intimate and funny (including when Roy accidentally dropped the rings) and culminated with Roy incorporating his Jewish roots and breaking a glass. The ceremony was followed by a ten course banquet at the Golden Unicorn Restaurant in Chinatown. Heartfelt speeches, first and parent dances and a traditional chinese tea ceremony featured throughout the courses. In keeping with how they met, an epic dance party followed with DJ Lindsey (from Mister Sunday) filling the floor with throwback tunes such as Ginuwine’s “Pony” which were a hit with the crowd. The couple and friends then kicked on with an afterparty till the wee hours.
